Mary J. Blige arrived at the MCM store in SoHo, New York, on Wednesday to toast her Sun Goddess Wines label alongside one of her favorite fashion brands, MCM. The event was held ahead of the official start of New York Fashion Week.
“Sun Goddess Wines is such a part of who I am and an extension of me,” Mary J. Blige said to WWD. “The world of wine is so connected to both hip-hop and fashion because music and fashion are two industries that are always celebrating something. Whether you are a fashion designer or music artist, anytime you come up with a new creative idea or have a new project, you want to celebrate, and we celebrate with wines and spirits.”
The Grammy-winning singer wore a black corset tank minidress for the soiree. Blige, who’s known for always heavily accessorizing, adorned herself with hoop earrings, a watch, several bracelets and several necklaces.
Blige launched Sun Goddess Wines in 2020 in partnership with Italian vintner Marco Fantinel. The singer told WWD she wanted to do this event so close to New York Fashion Week in partnership with the fashion brand because “MCM has been in the culture of hip-hop since I was a teenager. Artists from Heavy D to KRS-One were wearing MCM before we ever knew the brand would be as big as it is now. I remember when I was younger, everyone in hip-hop and R&B was dying to get their hands on an MCM piece. Now here we are with tons of MCM products.”
“This event with Mary J. Blige is a wonderful next step revisiting our heritage,” Ariana Milton, managing director of the Americas for MCM, said. “MCM is in an exciting new moment of momentum in a different, more elevated way. Mary J. Blige is part of our very important backstory. It’s so important to revisit these heritage moments in a different, exciting and elevated way. Cindy [Crawford’s] recent campaign was one way we celebrated and now we have this event with Mary J. Blige. Her passion for the brand and wanting to be part of the MCM movement says everything about our legacy and about where we’re going.”
