On Tuesday night, guests made their way down the narrow stairs of hip Lower Manhattan hot spot Jean’s to send New York Fashion Week off in style at a GQ-hosted party. The drinks were Apple Mules, the music was disco, and the dim lighting was red—surely in reference to the evening’s partner, Christian Louboutin. As the party reached the 30-minute mark, attendees packed in the bar area of the intimate venue.

It was another busy night for Will Welch, the global editorial director of GQ and host of the party, who told me he somehow managed to get a decent amount of sleep—the shortest night consisting of five hours of shut-eye—despite the week’s eventful schedule. “Fashion Week, Art Week, US Open, and trying to get to all of it—it’s great. It’s exciting. Right after Labor Day, New York just comes alive,” he said.
