The 1,100-square-foot store in the former James A. Farley Post Office will not only sell the company’s notebooks and other products, but the space will also feature an artist studio. It is slated to open to the public on Thursday.
As an homage to the artists in New York State, the boutique has created an “I Love NY” notebook featuring the motto of the state created by graphic designer Milton Glaser in 1976. The original sketch, which he created in the back of the taxi, is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
The Moleskine boutique features three interactive areas. At the entrance, a customization center gives the client the option to create their personalized notebooks or planners.
That is followed by a library featuring oak shelves and black lacquered cabinets, complemented by gray concrete floors. In that room, the entire Moleskine assortment is offered including bags, writing tools, writing sets and the newly launched collaboration with Blackwing, a graphite pencil company from California.
In the rear, separated by standing sculptural notebook screens, Moleskine has created the artist studio where a workspace has been set up.

Through the end of January, the artist studio will host SoMad, a femme- and queer-led independent art space.
